Lost / Found

Tips to find your lost pet

Search your neighbourhood.
Canvass neighbours and walk through your surrounding neighbourhood.

Get the word out.
Advise the Kingston Humane Society. Enquire if your pet has been surrendered or reported found. Make a lost pet report (in person or by phone).
VISIT the shelter to look for your pet. It is the responsibility of the pet owner to visit the shelter/search the found reports.
Make “Lost” posters for the neighbourhood which include a photograph and post extensively.
Place ads in local papers.
Call vet clinics in your area. Ask if you can leave a poster.
Contact your local Animal Control.

Don’t give up.
Visit the KHS regularly to search our stray wards.
Expand your search by calling surrounding shelters.
Place an ad in the Kingston Whig-Standard classifieds - free for three days.
Post ads on websites such as Kijiji, Petfinder, and craigslist.

Make your pet traceable.
Be sure your pet has identification tags on at all times.
Have your pet microchipped as a permanent identification system.

**Bring a photo of your pet to the shelter and visit (preferred) or call every couple of days. Please note that there is no substitute for visiting the shelter in person to look for your pet. This is a crucial part of your search.

LOST/FOUND REPORTS WILL EXPIRE ONE WEEK AFTER BEING SUBMITTED. Pet owners are required to renew their reports regularly by visiting or contacting the shelter. Please advise the shelter to cancel a lost report when pet is located.
