Adoption Process

Follow KingstonHumaneS on Twitter

The Kingston Humane Society believes it has been entrusted with the lives of all animals placed in its care and also their quality of life after they leave our care. Therefore based upon this the following adoption protocols are in place:

Adoption Process:

  • Pick out the dog or cat you would like to adopt. Please note its case number and/or name.
  • Fill out the proper adoption application (see link below).
  • Adoption application will be evaluated by staff, and vet references will be checked – this process may take up to 1 business day.
  • If it is deemed an appropriate match for you and the dog/cat adoption is approved.
  • Sign the contract and other information.
  • Take home your new pet.

Please see our Adoption Process for pre-adoption applications and more details on the services included with adopting a pet.

The Kingston Humane Society believes that part of the answer to cat overpopulation involves trying to manage feral cat colonies to prevent the births of unwanted litters of kittens.
